In 2020 I expanded into a very large room in our home. Previously, I only had a corner of this room dedicated to art. As my work became larger and more action oriented, I knew I had to expand. I have 3 easels that can hold up to 60" canvases and I have covered the entire ping-pong table with an old care cover for larger canvases. I also have ample floor space to work on the floor. I have a 24' wall of almost all windows and two other walls with windows for ample natural light. I have a balcony over-looking a marsh creek in which I see Wilson, a 15' alligator twice a week! I am blessed to have this amazing space.
My painting stye is influenced by the Abstract Expressionists women pioneers of the 40's, 50's, and 60's...also, known as the Ninth Street Women living and working in New York City. I embrace vibrant colors, textures and marks, as well as the emotions and experiences that we all share. I strive to create pieces that are visually stunning, emotional, interesting to my audience and personally impactful to me.
I typically begin each piece with a small study. This to at least conceptualize my initial feeling about what I want to convey. However, I always allow. the materials and my instincts to guide me as I work. I also try hard not to judge what I think are my "mistakes". If I allow them to exist and let them into the work the magic begins to happen. I believe that the process of creating art should be just as fulfilling as the piece itself. I also believe my works are not fully completed until they are viewed by my beholder(s).
